I was contacted last Friday by a hardworking single mother who needed help planning her daughter's 4th birthday party- which was the next day! It seems that time had flown by a little too quickly since sending out the invitations, and she suddenly realized that she didn't have any decorations, food, beverages, or activities planned for the 35 guests. That's where Me & You stepped in to help save the day! Take a look at what you can do with 24 hours and some on-the-spot creativity.
The backyard when I arrived Saturday morning, versus when I was done setting up:
A serene reading area with lots of children's books from the library:
The theme was popular children's show Octonauts, so we went with bursts of the show's theme colors and lots of nautical touches. Check out the fishing net and sea creature figurines I used as table toppers!
For an easy but cheerful beverage station, I set up two juices for the kids (with champagne on the side for the parents!) and a bright pop of lemon in the water.
Make basic grocery items come to life, like our smiley bell pepper friend and the buckets of Swedish Fish and "bait" (sour gummy worms).
Of course, no birthday party would be complete without birthday cake and goody bags! After breaking the piñata, the Octonauts cake and fish-in-the-sea favors were the perfect way to wind down the day.
Even with only one day to prepare, there's still a lot you can do with supplies you already have and food/beverages from any grocery store. Our client just wanted her daughter to have the best birthday and, with a little help, was able to make it happen.
