7 San Francisco Chocolatiers

When indulging your Valentine’s sweet tooth next week, make sure you shop local and support one of these San Francisco chocolatiers! Each one makes in-house treats that are as delicious as they are works of art.

Charles Chocolates - 535 Florida Street (Mission District)

They believe that “chocolates are food--fresh food--and as such they should be made with only the finest ingredients.” That means no preservatives or artificial flavors!

Dandelion - 740 Valencia Street (Mission District)

Unique small-batch treats known for their bean-to-bar approach, bringing out the nuanced flavors of each bean. Check out their beautiful cafe, factory tours, and chocolate-making classes (date alert)!

Hooker’s Sweet Treats - 442 Hyde Street (Tenderloin)

Hooker’s started with rich, buttery caramels and now has multiple delectable chocolate-covered creations. The Original is perfection, with fair-trade 70% dark chocolate and smoked sea salt on top!

Jade Chocolates - 4207 Geary Boulevard (Inner Richmond)

Owner Mindy Fong weaves her family’s Chinese heritage into her award-winning chocolates, hot chocolate, and ice cream sandwiches. Their unique flavors come from blending the chocolates with teas and spices from Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Miette - Ferry Building and 449 Octavia Street (Hayes Valley)

Named one of Conde Nast’s top ten pastry shops in the world, Miette also offers old-fashioned candy and confections. They started in Berkeley but now have three locations, including this pastel haven in Hayes Valley!

Poco Dolce - 2421 3rd Street (Dogpatch)

Translating to “not too sweet”, Poco Dolce specializes in bittersweet chocolates made with ingredients like California olive oil, local nuts, and popcorn popped in-house. All bars are gluten-free, and they also have a dairy-free line!

Recchiuti - Ferry Building and 801 22nd Street (Dogpatch)

Owner Michael Recchiuti believes in using fresh flavors like lavender and lemon verbena, which are sourced from local farmers’ markets. They partner with organizations like Creativity Explored and Meals on Wheels, so supporting Recchiuti supports the community!
